When was the first time you knew there was a Higher Power? Do you have a first time?
One thing I always suggest to people who are questioning their faith in God is to ask questions.
I suggest they ask as many questions as they can, about anything and everything. Bring those doubts on the table and discover the answers for themselves.
God is big and can handle all doubts. God will help you work through your doubts and help you become true to who you are. Who God designed you to be.
One of the most popular questions I get from people is:
“Do you think you believe in God only because you were raised to believe in God?”
To be honest, this thought crossed my mind.
Could this be true?
- What if I only believe in God because my parents baptized me as a baby?
- What if I only believe in God because I went to a Catholic school and exposed to God?
Then I think about a memory I get occasionally.
I’m 5 years old and it’s springtime. I’m by myself and I’m walking in front of my house along the sidewalk.
The cracks and rocks in the sidewalk become very clear. I notice the bright green grass beside the sidewalk. I realize the quietness surrounding me and then a bird chirps a beautiful song. The smell of the air was fresh and spring-like. The sun so warm and bright.
It was then at 5 years old I felt something greater than myself.
I didn’t know what it was then but after experiencing a few moments of self-awareness in my lifetime, I understand today what that day represented.
At 5 years old, I knew there was something bigger than me, I knew there was a purpose. I knew I had a purpose.
I didn’t experience this because I was raised Catholic. I was only 5 and I felt God.
I just didn’t know who God was.
It wasn’t until 30 years later until I was ready, I felt God’s presence again.
This time it was an overflowing energy of love and light that flowed through my body. An experience I can’t even put into words. An experience I wish everyone will one day experience. First hand for themselves.
It amazes me to know God was with me throughout my life. Through all the good times and bad times, waiting on the sidelines until I was ready.
Once I was ready, actively pursuing me, for that perfect moment to show me the abundance of love available to me.
I am and always will be in awe of God.
